New mountain bike trails for Perth’s northern suburbs

Building Recreation Infrastructure That Connects Communities to Nature

Perth’s northern suburbs are gaining world-class mountain bike trails, and Element Construction is delivering the infrastructure to make it happen.

The Yalbunullup Mountain Bike Trails at Yellagonga Regional Park represent a significant investment in community recreation. Element Construction’s work includes construction of accessible toilets, bike shelters, and supporting facilities along Lake Joondalup’s western banks.

The Project Scope:

This isn’t just trail building—it’s creating a complete destination.

Our work includes:

  • Amenities building with toilets and change facilities
  • Large shade pavilion and yarning circle
  • Interpretive signage highlighting the area’s history and natural values
  • Landscaping and erosion control measures
  • Building in Sensitive Environments:

Working within bushland settings requires different approaches—staging work around nesting seasons, implementing comprehensive erosion control, protecting native vegetation, and coordinating with Traditional Owners.

The name Yalbunullup was chosen in consultation with Whadjuk people, reflecting the traditional Noongar name for the site.

Local Impact:

The project created approximately 100 local jobs during construction and was delivered by several WA contractors. When completed, these facilities will make Yellagonga Regional Park more accessible to families, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone seeking quality outdoor recreation close to home.

This is infrastructure that gets people active, connects communities to the natural environment, and sets up the northern suburbs for decades of use.
