Yellagonga Regional Park Improvement Project

Creating the Kings Park of the North

The WA Government’s $8.5 million investment in Yellagonga Regional Park represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform Perth’s northern suburbs’ premier green space.

Element Construction is proud to be delivering key infrastructure across this major project, creating facilities that will make the park more accessible while protecting its natural and cultural values.

The Complete Vision:

This isn’t a single project—it’s a coordinated program of works across the entire park:

Northern Precinct (Lake Joondalup):

  • 7km Yalbunullup Mountain Bike Trails with supporting infrastructure
  • 100-vehicle car park and amenities
  • Shade pavilion and interpretive signage
  • Lakeside viewing platforms

Southern Precinct (Lake Goollelal):

  • Heritage Luisini Winery reactivation
  • All-abilities nature playground
  • Boardwalk highlighting wetland significance
  • Educational facilities for schools and community programs

Park-Wide Improvements:

  • New limestone pathways connecting Duffy House to Lake Goollelal
  • Formalised car parking at Perry’s Paddock
  • Additional planting and restoration work
  • Partnership funding for Friends of Yellagonga rehabilitation projects

Why This Matters:

Yellagonga has always been significant—culturally to Whadjuk people, historically to the Italian community through Luisini Winery, and environmentally as critical wetland habitat. This investment recognises that significance while making the park accessible to more Western Australians.

Our Approach:

Building in parks requires a different mindset. Every decision considers environmental impact, cultural sensitivity, and long-term sustainability. We’re working closely with Traditional Owners, environmental specialists, and community groups to ensure these facilities enhance rather than compromise what makes Yellagonga special.

The Result:

When complete, these improvements will establish Yellagonga as “the Kings Park of the north”—a premier destination for recreation, education, and connection to nature. Families will have quality playgrounds and accessible trails. Mountain bikers will have purpose-built facilities. Schools will have outdoor classrooms. And everyone will benefit from protected, restored wetlands.

This is infrastructure investment done right—preserving what matters while creating spaces where communities thrive.
